Rural Housing Week

Every year, Rural Housing Week highlights the many social and economic benefits of affordable housing to rural communities.

Rural Housing Week 2026

This year, Rural Housing Week will take place 6-10 July.

It is a moment for housing associations, local authorities, rural organisations and community partners to spotlight the vital role affordable housing plays in supporting and sustaining communities in rural areas across England. The week will showcase how genuinely affordable homes help people remain in the communities where they work and have family ties, while supporting local services, resilience and long-term economic growth.

We will explore the scale of need and the barriers to delivery in rural areas, and how housing providers, local and national leaders, rural communities and others can work together to overcome these. This is a great opportunity to highlight best practice on delivery, quality and sustainability of rural homes, and the wider social and economic benefits for rural communities.

Get involved

To ensure Rural Housing Week has the greatest possible impact, we need your help.

  • Save the date: 6-10 July 2026 and spread the word among colleagues.
  • Follow #RuralHousingWeek on social media and share the stories you find there.
  • Share our Rural Housing Week video, which explains the importance of affordable homes to the wider rural community.
  • Create and share your own Rural Housing Week supporter graphic (below).
  • Register for our webinar on Tuesday 7 July 2026 when we'll discuss the impact of the new Social and Affordable Homes Programme for rural housing, changes to the National Planning Policy Framework, and the opportunities and challenges for rural housing stakeholders in the current environment.
  • Prepare your own stories and share them during the week using #RuralHousingWeek. These might include quotes, photos, videos, written case studies, a blog or a news article.
  • Invite your local representatives (MPs, mayors, councillors) to visit so they can see for themselves what your organisation does and the impact it has (visits don't have to be during Rural Housing Week). To help with this, we’ve created a customisable template invitation.
  • To help with these conversations and others, use our local economic impact calculator to help quantify the impact of affordable housing in your area.
  • Keep an eye out for a new rural devolution toolkit, a practical guide for rural communities to make the most of devolution as it progresses in their area. This will be published during Rural Housing Week. For now, take a look at the research that informed this toolkit, and our other devolution resources for NHF members.
