Take part in our supported and older person’s housing development survey 2025

15 April 2025

At the NHF, we’re repeating our annual member survey on plans for the development and regeneration of supported and older people’s housing, and the barriers they face supplying crucial supported homes for the residents that need them the most.

This year, to feed into our Save Our Supported Housing campaign in the run up to the Spending Review, we’ve added new questions on the funding and operational landscape to help our influencing work.

Why is this year’s survey so important?

Our members are facing huge financial pressures due to decades of funding cuts and rising costs, planning and land barriers, alongside grappling with the effects of the National Insurance Contribution threshold changes and new regulation. This challenging context is already affecting the financial viability of current schemes, and on future plans to develop much-needed new homes.

The findings of this survey will provide vital data on how a stable and sustainable funding and regulatory environment can support the delivery of much needed new supported and older people’s housing. By demonstrating the real risk of supported housing schemes closing, we will strengthen our asks to government and campaign to Save Our Supported Housing.

Supported housing providers are seeing services at risk of decommissioning entirely. Our research shows that as of June 2024, one in three supported housing providers have had to close services in the past year and 60% expect to close schemes in the future.

The survey results will provide an important evidence base we can present to decision makers and inform our key asks of the government. Our key asks of government ahead of the Spending Review include:

  • Significantly increase funding for housing-related support to at least £1.6bn per year.
  • Commit to delivering more supported homes by 2040, with clear funding in the Affordable Homes Programme and supported homes a key part of the government’s 1.5m housebuilding target.
  • Ensure that the long-term housing strategy and homelessness strategy encompass the vital role of supported housing in the housing system.

How can I make sure my organisation is taking part in the survey?

If you’re an NHF member who provides either supported or older person’s housing, we want your organisation to complete the survey. If you would like to find out more about who’s received the survey at your organisation, please email our team using the contact details below.

The deadline for completing the survey is the 19 May 2025. Your response will be used anonymously, to demonstrate how far our members are planning to develop or regenerate much-needed supported homes. We want to hear from everyone - whether you're planning development and regeneration work or not. The survey should take 10-15 minutes to complete. You can download a copy of the questions using the link below.
